Ring Tones FAQ:
WHAT'S THE BUZZ ABOUT RING TONES EXACTLY?
The phone companies have introduced a new feature
in their phones: the possibility to compose one's
own ring tone directly on the phone or to send it
to the phone, from a computer. Many web sites now
offer pre-coded ring tones. That way, phone users
can have a broader variety of ringing tones to
choose from.
WHY CAN'T ERICSSON, SIEMENS, MOTOROLA AND OTHER
PHONES RECEIVE RING TONES BY SMS?
For a long time, only Nokia supported smart
messaging. But cellular operators have been
lobbying manufacturers so that they would add that
functionality in their phones and things have
started to change quickly by the end of
2001.Currently, many new Motorola phones include
either a built-in ring tone composer or the
ability to receive ringbones by SMS.
MY PHONE DOES NOT HAVE A COMPOSER. HOW DO I GET
RING TONES INTO MY PHONE?
You have 3 options:
|
Buy a data cable for your mobile phone. Then
connect this to your PC to have it upload
tones directly using software like Logo
Manager. You do not need the Internet for
this.
Use our SIMS ring tone service. This is very
popular at the moment but there is a small
charge via a premium rate phone call.
Have a friend (with a phone like the Nokia
3210) send the ring tone from their phone to
yours. This will cost similar to sending an
SMS or two.
|
CAN I SEND
RING TONES TO MY PHONE FROM THE RING TONE
CONVERTER?
No, unfortunately you can't. The Ring tone
Converter only converts ringbones between
different formats. If your Nokia mobile phone has
a Composer built in then you can use the program
to type in the key presses directly in your
mobile.
IS THERE A WAY TO CONVERT WAV OR MP3 FILES TO
RING TONE FORMATS?
Not using the ring tone converter. This is
technically a very difficult thing to do if not
impossible. I haven't seen any program that does
this successfully.
HOW TO SAVE A RING TONE - NOKIA?
Once the ring tone arrives, your Nokia will tell
you that a ring tone has been received. Press
OPTIONS and the following menu options will
appear: PLAYBACK, SAVE, DISCARD. Select PLAYBACK
and press OK to listen to the ring tone. Press
QUIT to stop listening to the ring tone. This will
return you to the previous three options, i.e.
PLAYBACK, SAVE and DISCARD. Select SAVE and press
OK to save the ring tone. The ring tone will be
added to the list of ring tones available on your
cell phone. To activate the new ring tone, select
the Profile menu and personalize it with the new
ring tone. Remember that only one ring tone can be
saved.
HOW DO I ADD A RING TONE TO MY NOKIA PHONE?
It depends on the Nokia model that you have since
Nokia uses 3 different systems to transfer ring
tones to their phones Each phone uses one or two
of these systems so you will first need to check
with the Ring tones Compatibility List and see
which Nokia format your Nokia phone uses. Then,
depending on the format you need.
HOW MANY RING TONES CAN I CARRY IN MY PHONE?
Older Nokia phones have only one memory slot
available for a customizable ring tone, but the
latest models have up to five. If your phone has
only one customizable slot, each time you download
a new ring tone, it will replace the previous one
if you decide to keep it. In other phones, the
number of customizable ring tone memory slots
varies. Check your owner's manual. Ring tone,
Ringer Tone, Melody, Tune, what's the proper term
exactly?
HOW DO I USE THE RING TONE OR LOGO ONCE IT HAS
ARRIVED?
Once this special message has arrived on your
mobile phone, a message will be displayed on the
phone screen saying "New Logo/Logo Received". You
can either save this directly to your phone (press
options > Save) or if you prefer it is possible to
listen/view first (press options > playback/view).
In order to activate your new ring tone you need
to locate the profiles or options menu on your
phone and select your new ring tone as the one the
phone should use.

OPERATOR LOGO
FAQ:
THERE ARE SEVERAL
DIFFERENT TYPES OF LOGOS - WHAT ARE THEY?
There are 4 different types of logo messages:
Operator Graphics:
Operator Graphic replacement: - where the existing
operator icon (typically text such as Network) is
replaced with a Logo or picture.
NOTE: Once a logo has been replaced it is not
possible for the user to revert back to their
original logo without a special message being sent
to the phone.
Group Graphics:
Group Graphic pictures: - Pictures can be assigned
to phone numbers on some models. When that number
calls and it is recognized the graphic will appear
on the screen.
Picture Messages:
Pure Picture messages: - The ability to send
messages which include a picture from one mobile
phone user to another. This is supported by the
latest Nokia phones (e.g. Nokia 3330& 8310) and
allows users to send a picture (graphical image)
and some text to another user.
Animated Screensavers:
Screen Saver Pictures: - Picture Messages from
this site can also be used as screen savers on the
new Nokia 3330. The 3330 screen saver feature is
based on the Nokia Picture Message format. Any
received Picture Message can be displayed as
screen saver. The timer for the screen saver can
be set to 5sec.-10min, meaning that when the 3330
has been idle or inactive for this user-defined
length of time, the screen saver is activated.
These days PCs have screen savers, but we expect
this to migrate to mobile phones too, and the
Nokia 3310 is the first and so far the only phone
to allow this.
* Please Check Compatibility for a list of Phones
that can receive Animated Screensavers
WHAT IS AN OPERATOR LOGO?
Nokia® 51xx, 61xx, 8810, 9110, 3210, 3310, 8210,
8850, 7110, 6210, 6250 and 8890 support an
Operator-Logo. Usually only one line with the name
of your operator is displayed when phone is idle,
but it is possible to save exactly ONE logo to the
phone, which gets displayed instead of the name of
the selected operator. An already existing logo
will be overwritten only if you save the new logo.
If you go abroad, you will see the normal
operator-text there. This allows you to identify
your phone at a glance. There are some funky
graphics available!
HOW DO I RESTORE MY ORIGINAL OPERATOR LOGO?
One method of removing an existing operator LOGO
and replacing it with the original network
provider's operator LOGO is to order any LOGO from
our number and when asked for the network provider
details the user should select an option which is
not their network provider. They will then receive
an operator LOGO. They should then attempt to save
this, however their phone should display a message
indicating that the network provider details were
incorrect and the phone will then have displayed
the original network provider's operator LOGO.
HOW TO SAVE AN OPERATOR LOGO - NOKIA ONLY?
Once the operator logo arrives, your Nokia
cell phone will tell you that a new operator has
been received.
You will then be given the option to preview the
picture (press the show key) and then to save the
picture (press the save key).
To discard the picture, press discard or the 'C'
key twice.
TO RESTORE AN OPERATOR LOGO?
You may restore your original operator logo
whenever you want. Simply request another icon for
your phone, but this time deliberately selects a
network operator other than the one you get your
service from. When the icon arrives, save it onto
your mobile phone. Your original operator logo
will be restored.
